Every florist knows the delight of unpacking the first of the spring flowers.  Few of the modern varieties of flowers have that all important perfume. This is because flowers are grown in hothouses often with artificial light sources.  Whilst fragrance is sacrificed, colours are enhanced and in New Zealand, we are famous for the vibrancy of our blooms! Spring flowers have been available now for a few weeks, so after a long winter, it is a treat to enjoy Sol d'Ors, early cheer and hyacinths. Tulips add a beautiful shape and form to any arrangement and are drawn to light sources, so and stems can form curious curves. My fruit trees are gearing up to blossom and I am out every morning to check on their progress. Not long to some delicious summer stone fruit!
